Dr Maureen Hollyoak is a skin cancer surgeon who performs skin checks, biopsies, excisions, grafts and flaps.
Dr Maureen graduated in 1987 from the University of QLD, and has completed much of her training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. In 1992 she traveled to America and worked in a clinical and research role at the Shriner’s Children’s Burns Hospital in Texas. While there, she completed a Master of Medical Science specialising in wound healing (Texas, USA). On returning to Brisbane she began her advanced general surgical training. In 1997 she completed her general surgical training and became a General Surgeon. Dr Maureen also has considerable experience in vascular surgery in both Australia and New Zealand.
Dr Maureen is now focused on skin cancer care. She has undertaken considerable training in this area. She has been awarded an Advanced Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine and an Advanced Certificate in Skin Cancer Surgery. She has also completed a Professional Diploma in Dermoscopy and currently undertaking a Professional Diploma in Skin Cancer Surgery.
Dr Maureen is focused on ensuring early detection of skin cancers. If diagnosed early skin cancers can be more easily treated, often without surgery. Dr Maureen’s extensive surgical experience means that most skin cancers can be removed in the clinic without the need to go to hospitals. Dr Maureen can perform even complex repairs on all areas of the body while aiming to achieve good cosmetic outcomes for patients. Dr Maureen has experience in total body imaging which is vital for patients with high number of moles and/ or history of melanoma. We also offer a comprehensive array of non-surgical treatments for skin cancers. Dr Maureen is happy to receive referrals from all GPs who require assistance with their patient management or advice. Dr Maureen is happy to accept patients who have various lumps, bumps or cysts that require assistance.
